Of course not!! Why just buy something identical to what you already have, when you have the opportunity to get something different? Unless of course, the plan was to have two matching wedding bands to start.An anniversary ring can be anything, even a new "engagement" style ring or right-hand ring. It by no means needs to match anything that s/he already owns.

Question : Is it odd to want an "anniversary" style ring for an engagement ring?
I am more drawn to a band with multiple small diamonds as an engagement ring instead of the traditional styles (ie. Solitaire or Three Stone settings) I like the simplicity of it and price. I would then have a plain white gold band as the wedding ring. But they are generally called Anniversary rings.... does that matter at all?
