Questions & Answers
Question : How does exchanging promise rings work?
I've heard of people exchanging promise rings, and am wondering, what does pre-engagement usually look like? Are there any typical ceremonies or formalities to this? Is it typical for the couple to actually exchange rings, or does the guy just but one for the girl? Do couples announce their promise, or is this kept to themselves? Just curious since I ran across this idea a while ago and have been wondering how it actually works.
Answer:
A promise ring is a pre-engagement. You are pretty much saying "I promise to propose to you when I'm ready."Just like an engagement ring, typically the guy buys it for the girl. No ring for the guy until the wedding day. Unless you guys decided to both wear one. If you plan to elope keep it a secret...otherwise celebrate your promise with your families.

Question : Where to get promise rings and for how much PER RING?
Where would I get promise rings for me and my boyfriend . And for how much per ring? (I want a store name and good estimates for silver rings)I also want to know if it would be a good idea to talk to the person working there about the prices and what would be the best to get? Thanks.
Answer:
Don't get silver! It tarnishes and if you have skin allergies or sensitive skin not good for everyday use

Question : Is it weird for a girl to also exchange promise rings?
My boyfriend and I are going on our one year anniversary. I don't really know what to do or get him... I was thinking something really really meaningful. We were talking about Promise rings and I know he wants to get my one, but I was wondering is it unusual for a girl to give one in return?
Answer:
Not unusual at all ... you're making promises to one another, so you both should be wearing rings to signify it ... I think it's sweet.

Question : How do I "hint" the idea of promise rings to my boyfriend?
I think promise rings would be very beneficial but I don't know how they work (as in going about and getting them). Does the guy ask something or does he just get it or what? How can I hint this to my boyfriend without being obvious?
Answer:
my girlfriend and have promise rings. it was my idea so i can't help there but maybe you can mention how you know someone who got them and how cute you thought it was or tell your friend and have them mention it to him. we just talked about what kind we wanted. we talked about what we liked and what colors we like. for example, we decided they had to match, not be to flashy, and i told her i don't like gold. then we went to different stores and looked at what they had and chose one. it's not like an engagement ring where it has to be a surprise. oh and you wear them on your weeding ring finger.

Question : what is the difference between a promise ring and a wedding ring in terms of 3 stone rings?
Lets not discuss the cost. I know that promise rings are generally cheaper but what if we got 2 rings that look similar and both cost $2k but one is marketed as promise ring and the other a wedding ring? are there small differences in the design im not aware of?
Answer:
There are no small differences that you are missing. It is all about the marketing of the rings. And your choice of them is according to what is in your pocket and your bank account. And what your gf/fiancee wants.A promise ring is not a traditional thing, it was never a stair step thing unless circumstances forced it. It can be skipped. In favor of one big honkin' engagement diamond[s], LOL. There really isn't any steps in a relationship where it is now time for the promise ring, now it is time for the engagement ring. Unless your gf/fiancee wants it that way. It is just a new way to market rings, and get you to spend more money. In Rivers day, a promise ring was something to be pittied, poor Rivers, her fiance is poor, and can't afford a better ring, and poor things have to wait to get married. Often promise rings were given when the couple was too young to marry. How things do change in one generation. Generally, a promise ring is smaller and cheaper. That is because it is often given at a time of life where marriage is just a promise, the couple might still be in school, or just starting their work careers, or in the military and maybe stationed apart. Otherwise, a promise might look like a small diamond solitaire, just one stone, but there are no rules about a promise ring. It could be anything that the gentleman can afford. Doesn't even have to be a diamond. It used to be a tiny diamond inside of a heart shape. And not intended to be worn after the engagement ring was given, unless it was on the other hand. And I hear these days the ladies are buying the gentlemen promise rings. A traditional diamond engagement ring has one diamond, but it can have as many as is wanted. A three diamond ring would certainly differentiate it from a single stone promise ring. My Mom's engagement ring was one big stone and a smaller stone on each side of it. She never had a promise ring, her engagement ring was it. Dad did promise to get her a better ring when their circumstances were better and the world was calmer. He did. A traditional wedding ring is is called a band, and that is what it is usually shaped like. It can be plain, or have stones in it, one, or a few, or many. It can be shaped to match and to hook onto the engagement ring. This is the one that is saved, and taken to the church/venue for the wedding, the one the minister blesses. The one that is never taken off except for danger, and cleaning. An engagement diamond does not have to be worn. Want to really be confused? How about an eternity ring? These were marketed some years back as being a gift for a big anniversary, and were diamonds completely around a band. But, some people have this type of ring for a wedding band. I guess they would get bigger diamonds in a bigger band for their anniversary.

Question : What do you think about promise rings in a relationship?
What do you think about promise rings in a relationship? It's a teenage relationship, and we're serious about each other. Don't say it's not real love, because you know nothing about our relationship, and that's not what I'm asking.
Answer:
they're cute

Question : Any unique ways to exchange promise rings ?
My girlfriend and I are exchanging promise rings soon but we want to do something that is memorable/romantic. She suggests lighting candles together and cooking dinner together then exchanging them. I have to come up with an idea as well. My idea was to go camping and exchange during sundown but the cabins are all booked. Any other ideas that are really romantic? Even a really romantic restaurant that has private seating ... I need ideas that will be extra-ordinary.
Answer:
to me - simple is more romantic. maybe you could take her for a walk. or have a picnic set up under the stars somewhere and dance with her. or, if it's applicable...take her to the place you first met or had your first date...kiss...something that's memorable and special to the two of you. and just tell her how you feel about her. =)

Question : What is a good place to look for rings(promise)?
My boyfriend and I are both 20 and have been dating for 4 years. We aren't planning on getting even close to marriage till after college, so since our ann. is coming up we have been looking at promise rings. I haven't found anything I like yet or for the right price. I dont care if the stone isn't real but it should at least be real sliver. I have looked at walmart, target, jewelry stores in the mall but havent found anything. any help?
Answer:
my promise ring, engagement ring, and wedding band all came from Kay Jewelers. So did my husbands wedding band. He picked out the promise ring alone, it was a surprise to me. It's so cute! it's just a small ring with 3 equally sized stones and the band is sort of split on each side. Here are kay's promise rings:http://www.kay.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/SearchResultsView?langId=-1&storeId=10101&catalog Id=10001&N=0&Ne=1&Ntk=Products&Ntt=promise+ring&searchButton.x=0&searchButton.y=0Mine is not on there anymore, or I would show you... :o(

Question : What is the difference between a sweetheart ring and a promise ring? How many rings are supposed to be given?
Ok, so my boyfriend wants to give me a promise ring, but my sister told him that first he is supposed to give me a sweetheart ring. She is saying that there are supposed to be four rings before marriage. The sweetheart ring, the promise ring, the engagement ring, and then the wedding bands.
Answer:
Sweetheart and promise rings are just made up marketing things. There is no tradition of having 4 rings before marriage. People used to only get wedding bands only not so long ago and no engagement ring. If he wants to give you a promise ring, go for it, but that is for sure just a thing that high school students do, not adults. Forget about sweetheart rings, LOL.
