Question : How can I clean the dullness off my silver ring?
I have a sterling silver ring I put in a felt pouch for traveling, when I took it out, it had a very thick dull finish on it. I purchased the polishing cloths and used the paste but it is not completely removing it, can anyone recommend anything to help? :(
Answer:
You can also try toothpaste or some of the cleaning solution that you submerge your jewelry into and let it soak for a few minutes.

Question : Matte or polished finish for a gold or silver ring?
Which is better? I have read that at least matte finish can hide natural wear/scratches of the ring. But I guess both have its own advantages and disadvantages. A polished finish will be shinier obviously? If you were to choose, which would you prefer and why? TIA
Answer:
It depends on what the rings is for, how much you are going to wear it, and how much you are going to pay for it.My wedding rings are a shiny finish. I wear the every day. Yes, scratches occur, but I have a warranty on them so I can go in and have them cleaned up for free and have them looking like new.If it's an every day sterling silver ring for casual occasions, matte is a fun and stylish finish.Another option would be tungsten carbide. It's kinda a grey silver tone. It will be hard to scratch that type of ring if you are worried about scratches. My husband has this metal for his wedding band.In conclusion, for my nicer, expensive jewelry, I like the polished, shiny service. For a more casual appearance, I like the matte.

Question : I am purchasing a silver ring and would like to to know more detail about the material?
what does polished, oxidised, or satin finish mean on silver material?
Answer:
Real silver has a very tiny number carved on it written 925 which states real silver. The stuff you mentioned only differ in the shape and color of the silver. Polished is a bit dark but smooth, Oxidized has some black stuff on the ornament which makes ot loka bit antiqueish and satin finish are the very shiny and bright ones which are often mistaken with white Gold or are used for designs

Question : how can I get rid of water spots on marble tile?
We used marble tile for our kitchen counter top/ after having glasses and wine bottles sitting on it for several hours we now have discolored spots and rings. The spots are under the finish and no amount of polishing etc. gets rid of them. Is there any way to treat them? Do we need to put a sealer on the tile?
Answer:
I have a marble floor (which had been sealed, too) in an ensuite, and it has been nothing but a problem. Twice now I have had to get professionals in to sand and repolish the water spots. Had I known this floor would be so touchy, I never would have done it. I have since been told that granite would have been the thing to use, and marble should be reserved for walls. This is what the professionals told me about removing water spots on marble: make a paste of a lightly gritty substance, such as baking soda, and LIGHTLY go over the water spot. Be careful, you don't want to make it worse. Then use a polish over it (in my case it was Pledge furniture polish, maybe you have something a bit better for a countertop). Thats it. It should lessen the spot, but probably won't remove it entirely. Also, I was told to regularly Pledge my marble floor to prevent future water spots. Hope this helps.

Question : Does titanium look like palladium?
My engagement ring is going to be palladium, but we want our bands to possibly be titanium due to our budget. Will the titanium band match my palladium ring? I want both to have a polished finish. Can anyone show me photos?here's the link to my 'palladium' engagement ring http://engagementring.theprestigediamondcollection.com/productdetails.aspx?ProductId=ZE0000024123 And here's the possible 'titanium' wedding band we will have. http://www.titaniumconcepts.com/omnipresent.htmwill those metals match or clash?
Answer:
The casting and polishing of the metals will have a great impact on the way they look. Generally speaking the Palladium will be slightly whiter and the Titanium have slightly more luster. No photograph will do justice to the looks of the metals. Go to a large jewelry store and ask to look at Palladium and Titanium rings. Look at these next to one another. The Palladium and Titanium will also look different as they age. Palladium will get a patina over time, but it can be polished to avoid this. The difference in hardness between the two metals might be a problem. The Palladium will have a Mohr's hardness of about 4.75 while the Titanium's hardness will be very close to 6.0. It is possible for the edge of the Titanium ring to scratch the Palladium.
