Yes, scratches occur, but I have a warranty on them so I can go in and have them cleaned up for free and have them looking like new.If it's an every day sterling silver ring for casual occasions, matte is a fun and stylish finish.Another option would be tungsten carbide. It's kinda a grey silver tone. It will be hard to scratch that type of ring if you are worried about scratches. My husband has this metal for his wedding band.In conclusion, for my nicer, expensive jewelry, I like the polished, shiny service. For a more casual appearance, I like the matte.

I just made a silver ring for my girlfriend. Should I polish and shine it to a mirror-like finish? Or should I leave it in a smooth, semi-matte finish? You will have to have a polishing wheel and go through different sorts of rouge, rough to fine.If you girlfriend is into bling, glitzer, sparkly shiny things, I would go for the mirror-like finish. If she is more of a classy, no fuss, industrial design gal, I would go for the matte finish.
