True, competitive cyclist do not wear them, reasons are due to if you get injured, comfort and just plain getting in the way.

Question : Can you explain how engagement rings & wedding bands work?
So I am confused on how the whole engagement ring system works. I heard that if you get a solitaire you wear that as your engagement ring, and then for the wedding you buy a wedding band that the solitaire snaps into to make it look like one bigger ring? I like the look of the three stone rings, so if I got a three stone engagement ring, then would I still have to buy a wedding band for the wedding?
Answer:
I have a 3 stone ring for my engagement ring. You can choose to have this ring as your only ring and have your fiance put this on your finger during the ceremony. You could also have a simple band that is the same metal color as the 3 stone ring's band. You can also get a wedding band with accent diamonds in it to go with your 3 stone ring. I may do this since I have a 3 stone ring with 3 accent diamonds on each side. It's really up to you and what you think looks good on you. I am not too sure about the solitaire engagement rings snapping into a wedding band, unless you are talking about a ring guard. I think with these the engagement ring fits inside the ring guard and put on your finger as one ring. I am not a big fan of this look. IMO it sort of screams 1980s. My sis in law had one for her first set and they were married in the 80s. She now has a multi-stone ring with a plain platinum band.Hope this helps!

I don't understand the different purposes or meanings behind the engagement ring vs. the wedding band. Do I really need both? We're shopping for engagement rings now. I found one I like and it's not too flashy: I want to wear THAT for the rest of my life. Can I just use it for an engagement ring then have him put it back on my finger during the ceremony? Or am I really supposed to have another seperate wedding band?

Typically you get an engagement ring and a separate wedding band. The engagement ring is the one with the bling, while the wedding band is typically smaller and simpler. I do have friends who got only an engagement ring, no wedding band. Your choice. I'm sure your fiance will be happy to save the $ :)

My engagement ring had a matching wedding band and I liked it so we got that one. It's platinum and set with diamonds so the price was higher than my fiance's band. My fiance chose a titanium band with a matte stripe in the center which was only $150. It really depends on the type of rings you want. Go to some local stores and check prices on what you like and see what you guys can afford to pay and then make a decision based on that. I got my fiance a ring for Christmas that's white gold with channel-set diamonds and it was $700 so that's a decent guage for that. It depends on the size and quality of the diamonds of course. Question : Is there a way to connect engagement rings to bands without soldering?
I have two bands, one that goes on either side of my engagement ring. They don't stay lined up properly and since they don't have diamonds around the entire band, they don't look nice all time. I had briefly heard of a connector that will hold them in place without soldering them?Has anyone heard of this also? and where to find one?Thanks!
Answer:
There isn't really any way to connect all three bands without soldering. What you are referring is called a ring jacket when a jeweler connects the two outside bands with spacers on three points, left right and bottom so you can simply insert your engagement ring from the top and all three rings will stay put.Soldering is the only way to make sure they are all safely connected. If you are concerned of seeing the soldering on the rings you can always have them laser tack them which is a very minimal way of welding them to each other and they can be removed very easily. Your jeweler should be able to give you more information on this process.

not at all. personally i wont be getting my wedding ring engraved. i have nothing against it, but i dont really see the point. we might get them engraved in the future for an anniversary, but at the moment i dont really want it.as for matching rings, unless you want a very plain band i would say no. men can have rings with diamonds in them (my fiance and i are considering it, he wants his ring to be really good as its the only jewellery he will ever wear, and we have found some very masculine designs) but its not very common. very few couples have matching rings.

If you are asking me, go to http://www.whiteflash.com:) There are plenty of places to shop online but I happened to be partial. Palladium offers a great price alternative to Platinum. It is a metal that will be hard to work with if you are considering intricate designs. Platinum is white. Palladium is white, but not as white – kind of has a darker cast to it ( you can try looking at the two metals side by side yourself). Lastly Palladium is lighter than Platinum. If all of those points are not show stoppers, it’s worth saving $1000.Good Luck!

Both for a female is traditional, but you can really do whatever you prefer. I would personally wait until wedding plans are actually in motion before buying jewelry to represent your commitment.
