Questions & Answers
Question : How much would a 1881 silver dollar be worth today?
I was in a woman's shelter many years ago and one of the workers for the evening shift took us upstairs and offer us clothing and other donated things sent for the women living there. I did not need any clothing so I opted for the sheets and towels and such. when I looked inside one of the bags ,I found a very old choker necklace with a big cameo and three strand pearls, lemon oil in it's original box, and a black box with an 1881 coin in it. I do not want to be taken advantage of so I would appreciate any answers in this matter.
Answer:
First check to see if it has a mint mark. If there is one it is on the eagle side near the bottom under the wreath. The only on that is scarce is the one with the CC mint mark (Carson City) values on that start at around $300.00. The others in circulated grades are worth around $10-$12 depending on the value of silver at the time of sale. If the coin has no wear, that is hair above the ear visible all feathers on the eagle's breast and wing tips there & sharp then the coin could have more value. Best bet try more than one dealer.

Question : Is this dress ok for prom?
its a tuxedo dress: http://www.saksfifthavenue.com/main/ProductDetail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524446171481&FOLDER%3C% 3Efolder_id=282574491208767&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474399545537&bmUID=1200443916416it looks plain on the page, you can click on the image to zoom in. will it go well with a three strand pearl choker? (the choker also has some stones on it - its costume jewelry, but high quality.) and would it look alright to wear black ballet shoes with laces? (ballet shoes used for ballet, not the ballet flats sold in shoe stores). if i wore gloves with this dress, should i wear them short or long?
Answer:
It's a bit plain but it will work.Long gloves will work.

Question : I have a double strand richelieu pearl necklace?
I have a double strand richelieu pearl necklace choker C-1575 . I was wondering if anybody knew how much it was worth. I got it from my mother in law and she said she wasn't sure what year it was from, but it's at least 50 years old. If anybody has any information it would be greatly appreciated, every website I've gone on only shows faux pearls. I want to know the real price, not for the faux ones.thank you
Answer:
If you can't find it on any website, take it into a jeweller's shop to be appraised.

Question : Which Queen wore a massive, multi-string pearl necklace (with choker)? Does anyone have this image/picture?
I have a memory of seeing a picture (photo?) of one of the queens of England (I assume it was a queen of England) that showed her wearing a multi-strand pearl necklace(s) that started as a choker and continued down to cover most of her chest. I think it had a broach in the middle causing the effect to be that of a rounded "w" on her chest. It had to be made up of dozens of strands of pearls but I'm not sure.If anyone has a link to an image of it they can provide and/or knows which queen wore it, I'd be much appreciative.
Answer:
It's probably Queen Elizabeth I you're thinking of; but Queen Alexandra always wore chokers and high necks due to her self-consciousness about a scar. "Princess Alexandra of Denmark (1 December 1844–20 November 1925), later Queen Alexandra, was the Queen Consort of King Edward VII of the United Kingdom."http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_AlexandraHere are some pictures:http://www.specialtyappraisals.com/webpages/images/Queen%20Alexandra.JPGhttp://www2.gol.com /users/hikami/famous%20diamonds/kohAlex.jpghttp://ajhs.schools.sd76.ab.ca/GRAPHICS/SCHOOL/Queen%20Al exandra%20-%20portrait.jpghttp://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.royalcollection.org.uk /egallery/images/people_large/QAL.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.royalcollection.org.uk/eGallery/collector .asp%3Fcollector%3DQAL&h=279&w=223&sz=8&hl=en&start=8&tbnid=mk4fWtkIW80E0M:&tbnh=114&tbnw=91&prev=/i mages%3Fq%3Dqueen%2Balexandra%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%26lr%3Dhttp://www.globaladjustments.com/gif/jew lry2.jpg

Question : Where to find gold pearls?
Anyone knows where can I find gold pearls in Singapore, other than Chomel? And where can I re-strand my pearl choker? Thanks!
Answer:
I'm not sure about Singapore, but Broome in Western Australia farms "South Sea" Pearls which range from white to gold in colour. Perhaps try a search under south sea pearls as this is the type of oyster i believe produces the colour pearl you are after.

Question : What happens to items that aren't sold in an outlet?
im absolutely in love with a faux pearl lanvin choker. three strand, nicely cut (glass, crystal?) stones, velvet ties. it was originally $2456, two of the necklaces wouldnt sell, and were brought to "off saks fifth avenue", the saks outlet store, and thats where i found it. at the outlet its $500, (during xmas, it was $245, but i didnt buy it). how long do you think itll be before they lower the price again, and if the item still doesnt sell, where will it go? ive looked everywhere online for it (to find a much much cheaper price), no one has it. being an outlet item, its hard to find.
Answer:
many outlet stores have a standard policy, like dropping the price every 3 weeks or something. You could ask them their policy.BUT, given that it didn't sell at the lower price at Christmas, i suspect they are going to keep it at the 500 dollar price at least till Valentine's day.You can ask the manager at that store to call you or email you if and when the price drops.Believe it or not, if you tell him or her that you wish you had bought it when it was on sale at 245--- you can ask the manager if you can buy it at that price now.Since it is an outlet, the manager might say yes.He/she may not, but you don't lose anything by asking.

Answer:
The 1881 Morgan dollar may have a mint mark above the DO in DOLLAR: (plain, Philadelphia; S, San Francisco; O, New Orleans; or CC, Carson City), and the retail values are as follows:plain, S, and O: $15US to $30US in circulated grades and more if like new.CC: $350US to $550US in circulated grades and more if like new.You might have an 1881 US Trade dollar which would be worth much more if genuine. Also, know that coin dealers will only pay wholesale values, so you should shop around for the best price.
