Questions & Answers
Question : What does the production of Omega-3 do to the environment and wild life?
I've heard that it messes up the food chain and so one when they fish to make omega-3. Is it true? Are there "safe" omega-3 products?
Answer:
Hey!Omega 3 production when using fish is absolutely terrible for the environment. As you're probably aware we as humans are severely depleting fish stocks on this planet and it takes around 6 times the fish to make fish oil and then from that you've got to concentrate it to get the omega 3 EPA and DHA that you want for health. There are two alternatives both of which are more environmentally healthy and arguably better for your health due to lower toxicity. The first is to use a plant based omega 3 such as flax or chia. These are grown in a sustainable way, often organically. The downside of course is that the kind of omega 3 in these plants is omega 3 ALA which your body then has to convert to EPA and DHA. This is at a very low conversion rate. Estimated to be 3-8% depending on the person. The other alternative is to use an algae based supplement.Fish don't make omega 3 EPA and DHA. Rather their bodies accumulate it through the algae which they eat. Further this is done on a farmed scale in a sustainable way with the excess being safely used as a green fertilizer and having unlimited potential for growth. MUCH better for you and the environment (and the fish! LOL).The best brand of this kind of omega 3 is Opti3 as it's quite concentrated but there are others out there; you've just got to look.

The alpha carbon is the one closest to the carboxyl (COOH) group. The carbon after that is beta, gamma, delta, epsilon....omega. It goes in order of the greek alphabet, A alpha, B beta, C Gamma, etc.

Question : Omega 3 question?
Okay I read about long chain omega 3 fatty acids from fish being really effective on the brain, but short chain omega 3 fatty acids like Walnuts, Flax seeds, Spinach are not so effective in some articles I read about online.I mean how do I get short chain omega 3 fatty acids into the longer chain so I can get benefits...does it mean I have to eat a lot of flax seeds and walnuts?
Answer:
Fish oil has long and shortand all other sources just have short (flax seeds being best short source)if you have NO long whatsoever in your diet, your body will work to convert some short chains to long chains but the bottom line is your body needs both Long and short to function BUT "According to many nutritionists, the amount converted to long chain fatty acids from short chains can not be enough to satisfy the needs of the human brain."Fish oil is the best way to get your omega three as it is the only source of long chaineither your need to eat the fish or buy the fish oil supplement to get your long chains, hope this answered your question(see article for more information)

Question : How much EPA/DHA should I supplement with?
I'm a vegan so obviously there isn't going to be many long-chain omega 3's in my diet; just lots of ALA.So I've started supplementing with 400 mg of DHA and 200 mg of EPA (algae based so still vegan). Is that enough for health or should I take more? Thanks!
Answer:
I hate to tell you this, but if you are taking the ALA there is no need to take the DHA or EPA: your body can very efficiently anabolize (build) the long chain poly-unsaturated fatty acids from the short chain. A tablespoon (10 mls) of flax oil will give you about 7,000 mgs of ALA - which is more than plenty. I'm not one for taking supplements that are over-priced/over-hyped or unnecessary. If you feel the compulsion to stick with the DHA/EPA you would want about 1,000 mg's of EPA a day.

I have been told that to take advantage of the Omega 3 one must eat the food raw.
Answer:
According to a highly esteemed Health & Fitness professor, sitting at my side, you don't re-configure fats by cooking them, and therefore, the Omega 3 is just find...But I guess it depend on how good a cook you are. If you burn the fats, that is a whole different story. MMMmmmmm burned fats.

Question : Snake and omega chain?
What is the difference? Which one is easier to make? How do I make it? Thanks!<3
Answer:
I buy those. Omega chain seems to be a broader flatter version of a snake chain. I've never heard of a regular person (i.e., not a factory) making those. Go to www.firemountaingems.com to see pictures of both. I don't know if you can make them at home, but check online for tutorials. There seem to be tutorials on just about anything now.
