Question : How can I cut a ball chain necklace?
I have a stainless steel ball dog chain necklace that I'd like to cut so it's shorter. However, the tools I've tried don't work...scissors, needle-nose pliers, saw...any ideas? Is there a special clipper I could buy somewhere?
Answer:
They have shops inside the mall that do this for you. most jewelry shops do it. I don't think its expensive.. probably less than 10 dollars. i dont think you should do it yourself, because you might break the tool and harm yourself.

Question : How do I fix my ceiling fan's ball chain switch for the fan part that broke off without one ball left?
There's a light part screwed on the bottom with two ball chain pull-switches for light and fan. The fan one broke, so I took off the cover and it broke off even inside the little plastic switch box. Do I need to replace the whole light part? the little plastic switch to the fan only?There's nothing to tie a string onto that I can find; not one single ball left!
Answer:
Just the switch..it's pretty easy. 5-6 dollars. And don't forget to turn off the power when you change it.

Question : How do I attach a lobster clasp to a ball chain?
The original connectors look cheap, I would like to attach a jump ring and a Lobster clasp?, What kind of findings do I need for Military dog tag Ball chains?
Answer:
Funny you should ask as I just received an order of 50 lovely petite ball chains from an Etsy shop BUT trying to attach the loose end of the ball chain to the tiny clasp was rather difficult ( they are the tiny 1.5mm size chains ).So I improvised by going through my box of necklace connectors and found some of those connectors used for suede cording, the kind where you dab glue on the ends of the cording and then squeeze the silver or gold coloured connectors over each end, wait to dry and then attach the jump rings to the connectors. So I squeezed a connector around each tiny chain end, attached a couple of jump rings, a silver plated lobster clasp and voila, a much easier way to hook up your ball chain and even looks 'fancier'. I must stress though that the suede connectors were larger than the chain so I did 'over squish' the connector edges together but I think they still look good and this was practicing with just one of the 50 ball chains. Not sure if they'd squeeze all around the larger larger ball chains but you can give it a try. Hope that helps, all the best :)

What kind of metal is used to make the metal chains that you would see in dog chain necklaces, like the ballchain metal? anyone know?
Answer:
A good one would be made of stainless steel or silver, but most are probably chrome plated steel because they are pretty inexpensive. Put a magnet on one and if it attracts, then it's the latter. I've had several and one was stainless, but free ones are usually plated steel or tin.

Question : Where can I place the Hitch chains if towing a small boat with a bumper mounted ball?
I have a 2001 Tacoma and plan on towing a small boat with it. I found out that my bumper can hold the weight but I want to know where to install the safety chains, I don't have any other holes to latch them to other than the chassis.
Answer:
If the bumper itself does not have any holes in it on both sides of the trailer ball, you can either drill in a couple yourself, have it done or hook the chains under the bumper on the bottom edge. Holes would be best. or place a short set of chains underneath that you could attach the trailer chains to.

Question : How to put charms on a ball chain necklace?
I wanted to make a necklace that has the numbers to my boyfriends dirt bike on it (426). So while in Hobby Lobby, I bought 3 number charms and a black ball chain. Problem is, the loops on the number charms are too small to slide over the balls and too small for me to freakin' open up and slide in between the balls. If that makes sense. What can I do to put these stupid numbers on the chain!Thanks :)
Answer:
you can use a jump ring or a bail to hang the charms onto the chain. :) Note: the size of the jump ring or the bail should be larger than the chain.

Question : Where can you buy ball chains?
I'm in the Army Reserve and my chain for my dog tags broke and I don't want to get reissued a new one. Do they sell them at the hardware store? I checked my local Army Surplus and they only had a 24" one. Standard issue is 27".

go to a hobby store they sell them in 3-5 feet lengths and you can cut them shorter. or i'd try a hardware store. just think out of the box. try looking for curtain pulls or living room fan chains. they are all the same thing.

You mean those necklaces that look like they consist of little balls?You can get them typically anywhere that sells jewlery. I know walmart sells them, that's where I got mine.but if anything, just buy another necklace that has that kind of chain, take the charm off and use it for your dog tags.:D
