Questions & Answers
Question : where can i go to find someone to buy loose gemstones?
I have a small collection of various loose gemstones that i would like to sell and would like to know where to go to sell them. my collection includes amethyst. lab created alexandrite, tanzanite, emeralds, opal, topaz, ect.
Answer:
A lot depends on whether you're expecting retail or wholesale prices, or something in between. Also, a lot depends on the quality and cut of the stones as well as their size. How about advertising on Craig's List? You might, before you seriously try to sell them, ask a jeweler in the area for an estimate of the value of each, wholesale as well as retail, along with the size and description of the cut of each. You'll want an estimate of the jeweler's charge for the information you need up front. He/she won't do it for free. One major thing to remember is that loose stone, natural or man made, aren't nearly as valuable as set stones. The mountings are frequently what make the stones and the value of same to soar. It would be very helpful to have the info I'm mentioning on the stones before you get seriously involved in trying to sell them.I hope this helps. I made and sold my handcrafted jewelry for a number of years. I wish you luck.

Question : Where is the best place to buy loose gemstones?
I'm looking for a loose cut or rough peridot for my girlfriend's 21st birthday. I want it to be good quality and/or large. I am willing to spend up to 500$ on it. I am in Pennsylvania, Lehigh county. I was thinking any legitimate website or maybe some sort of jewelry store? She prefers the more lime-green peridot so i'm thinking Arizona or Burma would probably be the best source.
Answer:
How about the Jewelry Exchange? I don't know where it is, but I see ads for it all of the time- somewhere around Philly, I think. They claim to be unbeatable. Or Steven Singer (though I don't believe they have loose gemstones), but they have an awesome place & beer if you are shopping there....

Question : What sells better "loose" gemstones, or gemstones in jewelry?
I bought a lot of loose gemstones included in it was a 2.5ct yellow sapphire. My question is how can i turn around and sell these. Sell them individually and try to make a profit, or possibly put them in differnt settings like pendants and earings and se them. Which has a higher market value? and How is the best way to sell it?

Question : Where can I find necklace settings for loose gemstones?
I'm trying to find necklace settings onlines for some loose gemstones and can't. Any help? Thanks.
Answer:
The thing to do is go to a jeweler who makes jewelry. You can't buy a necklace pre-made without stones and expect your stones to fit. So, find a reputable jeweler. He/She can show you your options for setting and will make the necklace for you.http://www.paynesjewelry.com/ this is just one site offering custom-made jewelry. If you want to search online, just Google "custom-made jewelry"

Question : What is the best way to sell loose colored gemstones?
I recently inherited some loose colored gemstones as part of my late father's estate. I don't know much about gemstones but I have all the original documentation for the stones showing what they are and how much was paid for them. Absent posting auctions on ebay what is the best way to sell them for close to what was paid for them?
Answer:
Perhaps there is a jeweler in your town that is willing to let you sell them on consignment? Worth a try....

Question : Are there any online retailers where I can buy loose gemstones individually as opposed to strands?
I'm just beginning to make jewelry. I don't need entire strands, or to buy in bulk. Can I only do this physically at a beading supply store, or are there places online that will sell them one by one?
Answer:
Not sure if it will help but try Kandras beads.com Never hurts to ask.

Question : Where can I find a sorce of buyers for loose gemstones other than online auctions?
I found some loose gemstones in a box while serching for something else in a dresser drawer that belonged to my father. He passed away 30 years ago .I would like to sell these stones but the online auctions want you to practicly give your stuff away. I would like to know where to find buyers for these with out having to practicaly give them away. I have had them checked out buy a jewler and they are real natural gemstones
Answer:
Ask for quotes from a number of jewelers.Look for gem shows in your area. While most of the vendors there are not interested in small quantities, This is wheere you will have your best chance of finding someone looking for just one or two stones, and willing to pay fair value for them.If you have a flea market in your area you might try offering them for sale there, or consigning them to a reputable vendor.

Question : Where can I buy real, loose gemstones?
I don't know of any website or store where I can buy them loose and most websites might be scams so if anyone knows of a place where I can find real gemstones, please let me know.Oh, ofcourse I know they will be expensive, but it's worth it because I love them and I love getting creative and making my own jewelry with real gemstones, it brings out the creative side of me. ;)
Answer:
You can go to any gemstone shop in your area. Agreed, you are going to get ripped off at many online stores. Go to a physical store where you can actually see the stones, and talk to the salespeople. You know, of course, that real gemstones are quite expensive? That is why they are called "gem" stones. Ask any hobbyist and they can give you the names of some some good suppliers.
