Questions & Answers
Question : Bezel set diamond problem?
My engagement ring was a cut cornered rectangular diamond, bezel set in platinum, from a very reputable maker. One day I noticed that the diamond, while not falling out, was loose!! So I took it back to the store and they are checking it out. While Im waiting to see what they find, I would like know if anyone else had this happen or if you know how this could happen? I take it off when cleaning, cooking, washing dishes.
Answer:
Loose diamonds are not rare however, it is so good that you noticed it before you lost the stone. I have a cushion cut diamond also and I am constantly analyzing it. I am surprised that it came loose being a bezel set. Anyway, diamonds do get loose so keep your eye on it always and have it checked every year from the jeweler you purchased it from. The one thing you need to avoid is banging your ring on anything, you can actually crack or break the stone. Did you hit it on something recently? You can wash dishes, cook and everything with your ring on. Platinum and diamond is a very hard element and it won't hurt the ring at all. Actually, it will keep it clean. Good Luck

Question : Anyone have ideas on a wedding band that would fit my engagement ring?
Hello, I was looking to see if anyone has any ideas on a good wedding band that would look good with my engagement ring.I put a few pictures on photo bucket so you can take a look.Sorry they are not the best pictures.http://s691.photobucket.com/albums/vv279/hollyhope1_photo/My%20engagement%20ring/I love my ring!It is white gold and has a princess cut diamond with two bezel set sapphires on the side.Three little diamond chips running down both sides as well.If i get a straight edged wedding band it will have a gap between them.Is that ok? Or do you not want any kind of gap?I am also planing on having them soldered. Is it possible for them to fill the gaps and still have it look nice?Has anyone done this? Thanks for all your help.

Question : Custom ring was made badley...what can i do?
I bought a really beautiful sapphire several years ago nd finally had the money to have it set into a ring. Since it's slightly off in shape I had a custom setting with a halo of smal diamonds and a plain shank done in white gold. The first two things that were wrong were that i had asked for it to be prong set and it was bezel set, and the diamonds were set all crooked and not well done at all. I mentioned the problem and she straightened out the diamonds for the most part. I was willing to live with it. But now just two months later the bezel set sapphire is loose. What can I do? The company is called elsarings.com
Answer:
take it back and tell them you are not happy with it. if they dont want to fix it go to a manager if still no luck call the company and explain it to them.. tell them that this ring was for someone special and your trusted their company to make a very nice ring and it is not how you wanted it.. explain everything to them and even about the woman who "fixed" the diamonds.

Question : Why do wedding and engagement rings have to be "traditional"?
I've never understood why wedding and engagement have to be "traditional". One of my dearest friends in the world has a black titanium ring, with a black diamond in the center (in a tension setting), and has two, bezel set, white diamonds (one on each side fo the black diamond). I think the ring is GORGEOUS! But people have told her that her ring is "ugly, trashy, useless, not feminine enough, to manly." I can't fathom a prettier non-traditional ring myself. I really enjoy finding really interesting rings. I've found sites that cater to my love of 'non-traditional' rings. As a matter of fact I am having a new wedding/engagement ring made for me when my husband deploys next year to Bahrain. Mine will be made out of platinum and diamonds. But I don't want a "traditional" ring. To me that is BORING! So my question to you folks out there reading this question. What is wrong with not having a "traditional" wedding/engagement ring? Let me hear your opinions. Please be tactful. Thanks.
Answer:
Wow your friends ring does sound cool. It doesn't have to be traditional if you don't want it too. It's really a personal preference, same with the wedding, the day is about you and your husband to be, make it want you want.

Question : Bezel setting for engagement ring: questions?
1) Is a bezel setting harder to clean and keep clean, since the metal wraps all the way around the diamond?2) Does the bezel setting make the diamond look bigger or smaller? (I've heard both!)
Answer:
I have a couple of rings and a pendant that are bezel set. I do have to take extra care when cleaning my Mozambique Garnet that is bezel set, because I think it does show grime more around the setting. That being said, with the two diamond pieces, I do not notice any grime.I just use a soft toothbrush and some gentle handsoap and give them a quick scrub before I wear them to make sure they sparkle.I happen to think my bezel sets look a bit larger, but it is all a matter of opinion. Go to the mall and look at some in the jewelry stores =)

Question : Does a bezel setting make a diamond look smaller. Its in an engagement ring.?
http://www.adiamor.com/R-1089-R2801-2.htm
Answer:
In my opinion, no, but it depends on the size of the diamond.Mine is a bezel & I love it bc I won't have to worry about ever losing the diamond. Plus, it allows the stone to sit more flushed with the rest of the setting vs. it being raised above the rest of the band. I got a larger diamond and set it lower.....plus this way it won't snag on things!!!

Question : What does bezel means?
As I just bought a blur sapphire ring and the website say that if a bezel setting behind means it's real and if a close up setting means it's fake . So what's bezel and close up means?
Answer:
I am not sure what close up means in that case. A bezel is like a little lip or rim inset at the edge of the gem holder (the setting). The rim overlaps a part of the gem edge and keeps it from falling out, basically. A lot of times the setting completely surrounds the edge of the gem, but sometimes bezel settings are only partial (you could have two quarter-circle settings with bezels on opposite sides of the gem, for example, rather than having a complete circle around the gem). If you take it to the extreme of minimizing the area of the gem covered by the bezel, the settings become posts. The close-up thing kind of throws me. Perhaps you mean whether it is an open or closed setting? An open setting lets light shine through from underneath but a closed setting doesn't. Is that what you might mean?A post setting would usually be an open setting in that regard, whereas a lot of full bezel settings would be closed settings (but they do not have to be)

Question : Would a Princess cut diamond fit in a 6-prong setting such as this?
I'm looking into buying an engagement ring. But the main stone has to be princess cut. Would this 6-prong ring fit a princess cut diamond? http://www.abazias.com/database/engagement-rings/Antique-Style-Bezel-Set-Princess-Engagement-Ring_EN G-SS-128-142.asp
Answer:
The head would have to be modified to a 4 prong. This is something you may want to check out at http://www.whiteflash.com. They are one of the largest e-tailers of best performing princess cuts in the country. Here is their gallery which may want to browse. http://www.whiteflash.com/gallery/Good Luck!

Question : What type of ring do you think I should get?
My husband is going on deployment to Bahrain sometime in 2010. While he is over there he is going to have a new engagement and wedding ring made for me. I still have my old set, but I can't wear it because I have an allergen to white/yellow gold, and silver. And no I don't wear a wedding ring now. My doctor said I'm either allergic to the nickle or copper. My problem is I can't decide on a design that I really like. Here are some things about me: I'm a part-time personal trainer. I have a very active, HIGH functioning, child with Autism, and I just found out that I'm pregnant again. I don't like jewelry that has a high setting, because I am afraid of scratching my son. All of the jewelry made in Bahrain will be made out of platinum with diamonds. Here are some of the ring designs that I really like: 1: http://www.byronbayfinejewellery.com.au/products/gypsy_princess_2/127/12: http://www.byronbayfinejewellery.com.au/products/white_and_rose_engagement_ring_2/132/13: http://www.byronbayfinejewellery.com.au/products/diamond_engagement_ring_with_round_and_marquis_diam onds/124/14: http://www.byronbayfinejewellery.com.au/products/claw_set_engagement_ring/87/15: http://www.byronbayfinejewellery.com.au/products/ruby_and_diamonds_trapezium_ring/151/16: http://www.byronbayfinejewellery.com.au/products/three_ring_set_with_diamonds/82/17: http://www.byronbayfinejewellery.com.au/products/ceylon_golden_sapphire_rail_ring/3/18: http://www.byronbayfinejewellery.com.au/products/bezel_set_opal_ring/54/1If anyone has any links to other designs that I might like, PLEASE go ahead and post the links. Please be tactful. Thanks
Answer:
I like 1. It works well for your active lifestyle and it won't scratch your son. It's also very pretty and interesting!
