It looks like strips of cloth , that rolled itself up, then was braided and looks like a rubber band holding it together. I am not sure but you can go on line to the various craft stores in their craft section and see if they have the cloth or something like it redi made.

Answer:
I do not believe these are knotted, I believe they are wrapped around a piece of plastic canvas. Somewhere a very long time ago I had a DMC freebie flier that gave instructions on this and I made a collar for one of my stuffed animals. If I remember right, you need to cut a piece of canvas to the right size for the bracelet, then lay the letter colors along it's length - not sure how you attach or if you even do. Then you wrap the whole thing with the background color, and when you need to make part of the letter, you bring the letter color over top of the background one for that one square, then continue. The letters will need to be drawn out on a grid/chart so that you know where you need to swap and have the inside color go on top - try using a cross stitch alphabet chart. Sorry I couldn't find more with a google search, but maybe you will have better luck!
