Question : What does the runway identification of an airport mean?
I have noticed a very same runway can bear two different numbers. But two different runways can bear the same number. On the other hand, numbers are qualified with either an L or R, which I assume stand for right or left. How do they choose a number? Why it seems a two-runway airport have arbitrary - at least to me - runway identification tags?
Answer:
Runway 5 indicates that the plane is landing with an approximate heading of 50 degrees. 23 would be a heading of 230 degrees.Actually it could be the same runway, but at different ends. (Hopefully, not at the same time). The two number are always 18 (180 degrees) different.You are correct about the "L" and "R" meaning left and right.

Due to the recent raids in O'Hare Airport a few of my undocumented friends are afraid to fly. Is a passport really needed to fly even if its only in the United States or is any identification (whether expired or not) okay?

Here is the information right form the TSA website:On April 28, 2008, DHS and TSA provided greater clarity on the types of identification that will be accepted at checkpoints in the United States.Beginning on May 26, 2008, adult passengers (18 and over) will be required to show a U.S. federal or state-issued photo ID that contains the following: name, date of birth, gender, expiration date and a tamper-resistant feature. These IDs include:Acceptable DocumentsPhoto of acceptable documentsClick here to view afull-size version. * U.S. passport * U.S. passport card * DHS "Trusted Traveler" cards (NEXUS, SENTRI, FAST) * U.S. Military ID * Permanent Resident Card * Border Crossing Card * DHS-designated enhanced driver's license * Drivers Licenses or other state photo identity cards issued by Department of Motor Vehicles (or equivalent) that meets REAL ID benchmarks (All states are currently in compliance) * A Native American Tribal Photo ID * An airline or airport-issued ID (if issued under a TSA-approved security plan) * A Registered Traveler Card (that contains the following: Name; Date of Birth; Gender; Expiration date; and a Tamper-resistant feature) * A foreign government-issued passport * Canadian provincial driver's license or Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC) card * Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)Non-US/Canadian citizens are not required to carry their passports if they have documents issued by the U.S. government such as Permanent Resident Cards. I have heard that it requires a birth certificate and state issued photo identification and I have also heard that it requires a tourist card. I am aware that a passport is not required until June 1st, 2009. I did go to Mexico early last year with only my driver's license and had absolutely no problems coming back, eventhough everyone told me I wouldn't be able to return.

I am making reservations for a 6 year old and an 8 year old. I will be traveling with them. They have no identification -- other than birth certificates. Do we need to bring the birth certificates, something else, or not worry about it?
Answer:
If you are the adult traveling with the children, they don't need anything if they're under 18, and traveling domestic. International travel will require at least a passport. Government-issued, valid photo ID is recommended for children, but if it's not available, and a verified adult is traveling with the children, they are OK.

You'll need to have a birth certificate, a photo ID is good as well, or a passport. Also....if only one parent, a relative or friend is travelling alone with the child, you will need a certified letter of consent from the parent(s) not travelling with the child.

90% of landlords will approve you with any form of govt ID like a license. it really depends on what type of place you are renting from though. Private landlords may never even verify ID. Co-ops and larger communitues may make you jump through hoops.

Normally you don't need more ID because they have your photo and possibly your thumbprint on record...did they tell you to bring something? I would bring any ID I have, especially a school ID just in case...
